63-year-old Ga chief marries a 12-year-old girl (Video)

According to reports, the Gborbu Wulomo of Nungua, Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsuru XXXIII, who is 63 years old, recently married a 12-year-old girl named Naa Okromo in a traditional ceremony on March 30.

The young girl will now be known as Naa Ayemoede and is set to undergo a purification ceremony.

The Facebook page clarified that the chief will not be intimate with the girl until she reaches the age of 18, and his actions will be closely monitored by the community.

Following this news, Ghanaians expressed outrage on social media, condemning the chief for engaging in what they perceive as pedophilia.

Many criticized the practice of child marriage, stating that it violates human rights and harms young girls’ futures. Some questioned why a young virgin was not chosen for the ceremony instead.

In response to the backlash, the elders of Nungua defended the tradition and criticized those calling for police and gender ministry intervention.

They pointed out that the criticism displayed ignorance and even challenged Christians to consider the story of Mary and Joseph.

The situation has sparked a heated debate in Ghana, with conflicting opinions on the cultural practices and the protection of children’s rights.
