“Cheddar owes GHC7 million in Taxes” – GRA

Prominent Ghanaian real estate developer, Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, is embroiled in a series of tax evasion scandals, according to documents from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The papers reveal that Bediako has been hit with sizable penalties for not filing his income tax returns, with the total evaded taxes exceeding GHC7 million. This has raised serious concerns about Bediako’s commitment to financial transparency and responsibility, especially considering his political ambitions.

The documents depict a recurring tax evasion pattern. Bediako reportedly incurred penalties of GHC15,222, GHC14,492, GHC13,760, and GHC6,526 between 2013 and 2016 for not filing his personal income tax returns.

While he seemed to comply in 2018, 2019, and 2020, the trend of non-compliance reoccurred in 2021 and 2022. The leaked document estimates the evaded taxes in these two years to be an astonishing GHC2,088,228 for 2021 and GHC5,096,536 for 2022.

This revelation calls into question Bediako’s fiscal responsibility, affecting his public image as a potential leader. It remains to be seen how this issue will be resolved and what impact, if any, it will have on his future political aspirations.
