The Sokoto State Police Command recently apprehended ten individuals who were part of a human trafficking and child abduction ring, leading to the rescue of 21 children.

The Commissioner of Police for the state, CP Ali Hayatu Kaigama, made this announcement during a press briefing at the command headquarters in the state capital on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

According to CP Kaigama, one of the suspects, identified as Bala Abubakar from the Tudun Wada area of Sokoto, was accused of selling a total of 28 children, including six of his biological children.

The suspects reportedly handed over their victims to Kulu Dongoyaro and Elizabeth Ojah in exchange for amounts ranging from N150,000 to N250,000.

They claimed that the children were being taken to an NGO based in Abuja that would take care of their needs.

The police commissioner expressed deep concern over the heinous activities of the syndicate and emphasized the importance of cracking down on such criminal operations to protect vulnerable children.

The rescued children are currently receiving care and support, while investigations into the matter continue. The ten suspects are now in police custody awaiting further legal action.
