Former GFA President Kwasi Nyantakyi Hails Abedi Pele as the Greatest Ghanaian Footballer

Kwasi Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has unequivocally hailed Abedi Pele as the greatest Ghanaian footballer of all time. He made this declaration acknowledging that Ghana has produced a plethora of exceptional players who have left their mark on the game. However, in his assessment, Abedi Pele stands a cut above the rest.

Nyantakyi stated that public opinion might vary, but from his perspective, the ex-Marseille player is the pinnacle of Ghanaian football. He shared a personal anecdote of his dedication to the player, revealing that he once traversed a considerable distance to Tamale in order to witness Pele in action.

“Abedi Pele was simply exceptional,” Nyantakyi said during an interview with Accra-based Starr FM. He added that other notable Ghanaian players like Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, and Sulley Muntari would likely concur with his sentiment.

Nyantakyi further recalled his admiration for Pele, stating: “I used to read about him in the papers. When I heard he was coming to play a game in Tamale, I travelled miles away to watch. His performance left an indelible mark in my mind.”

The former GFA president ended by reiterating his admiration for the player. “Abedi Pele was just a superb player,” he concluded.
