‘I am no longer your citizen’ – Ghanaian celebrates securing Dutch citizenship

A former Ghanaian citizen, Kofi Gabs, also known as Presido Gabs, recently celebrated obtaining Dutch citizenship after completing the necessary paperwork.

Gabs, a digital content creator living in the Netherlands for a few years, expressed gratitude to Ghana for granting him the passport to travel to his new home.

In a video shared on his social media platforms, he thanked Ghana for the opportunity but declared his formal switch to Dutch citizenship.

Many well-wishers on social media congratulated him on his new nationality.

Gabs has shared photos and videos of his celebration, including a party he threw for himself after officially becoming a Dutch citizen.

The process of renouncing Ghanaian citizenship involves purchasing a form, submitting an application letter to the Minister of the Interior, providing a CV, passport photos, a copy of the Ghanaian passport, an assurance letter from the new country of citizenship, and a receipt of payment.

The process typically takes two weeks and costs GH₵1,200.00.
