I quit acting to become a caregiver in London – Rita Dominic

At the Women of Velour Conference in Accra in 2024, Nollywood star Rita Dominic shared about a pivotal moment in her life when she decided to take a step back from the spotlight to focus on personal growth and introspection.

Dominic disclosed that she faced personal challenges that prompted her to move to London in the early 2000s, leading to a temporary hiatus from her acting career.

“Around 2001/2002, I took a break from acting. I left the industry and relocated to London because it was a difficult period for me,” she revealed. “I had disagreements with close friends who were like family to me, and I needed time away from acting to navigate through that tough time.

” While in London, Dominic discovered a new passion for caring for adults with special needs and worked as a caregiver in a care home. “During my time in London, I supported myself by working as a caregiver in a care home for adults with special needs. This is something I haven’t shared publicly before,” she confessed.

Despite the contrast from her glamorous acting career, Dominic found fulfillment in helping others during their vulnerable moments.

Although she eventually returned to the world of Nollywood, where she had found fame with her breakthrough role in “A Time to Kill” in 1998, Dominic’s experience in caregiving continued to influence her. She also ventured into film production, making meaningful contributions to the industry.
