I’ll Use AI To End Galamsey If You Vote For Me – John Mahama Promises

John Dramani Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed to address the issue of illegal mining, also known as galamsey, should he win the 2024 elections.

At the 3rd Annual Transformational Dialogue on Small-scale Mining at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani, Mahama outlined his plans to utilize modern technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), to combat this problem.

He explained that his administration would employ AI to identify all small-scale mining and galamsey activities, monitor excavators, and geofence concessions to enhance oversight and reduce environmental damage caused by illegal mining.

Additionally, John Mahama proposed the creation of a special fund to supply essential mining equipment for sustainable operations in mining communities.

He stressed the importance of responsible and sustainable utilization of natural resources to minimize negative environmental impacts.

Mahama also introduced the Ghana Mining Excellence Centre (GMEC), which would be managed by UENR and UMaT, as a collaborative effort to address mining sector challenges and promote best practices.

By emphasizing the use of technology and collaborative frameworks, Mahama’s commitment to tackling illegal mining and promoting responsible mining practices if elected is evident.
