Michael Essien loses over 1million followers on twitter after declaring supports for gays & Lesbians

Former football star Michael Essien has faced a backlash on social media after expressing his support for the LGBTQIA+ community in Ghana.

Following his statement, he lost nearly a million followers on Twitter.

The issue of homosexuality in Ghana has sparked debates, with some arguing for the rights of individuals to love who they choose, while others believe legalizing homosexuality would harm the country’s development.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made it clear that same-sex marriage will not be legalized during his presidency.

Despite this, some Ghanaians living abroad have called for the protection of LGBTQIA+ rights.

Essien’s show of support for the community led to him being cyberbullied and insulted by Ghanaians, resulting in a significant decrease in his social media following.

The LGBTQIA+ community in Ghana recently faced a setback when their office, which was established to address their concerns, was shut down by the National Security.
